Poem Barricaded Soul

He's been
Drawn out,
Asphyxiated and,
Lain down
In a pool of unrest.
Inundated by
Apathy, misanthropy
And distance.

Nothing sparks
Reaction
Like the appearance
Of dried blood.
Sorrow on his face
Makes a smile on hers-
And hypocrisy shines
On both her faces.

Screams from the depths
Of the past
Resonate and reverberate
Off eardrums.
Confrontation occurs
And he stands
Brazen,
Staring into her eyes,
Those hollow eyes.

Is this how a mother looks
At her child?

The night sky hangs
Like broken wings
And words in an empty room.
Some things are best left
In the depths of the soul.
Some things need be left
In the depths from whence they came.

Mother, dear mother
How'd it feel to barricade
A soul inside your house?

And his heart lays there broken,
Ever-breaking,
And losing it's will to beat.
And the lungs collapse,
Losing will to breathe.

Do you like what you see?
A stone-cold resolve
Made possible
By a bottle of scotch
And things he won't remember.

Do you still love your child?
You've shed responsibility
For your sins
And your defeats.
You're wrapped in the web
Of your lies
And unvocalized attraction
To your own abusive tongue.

Your rhetoric has worn thin
And it's falling short
Of everything you fabricated
In that shallow heart
And distracted mind.

Do you still know your own son's name?
Did you see how hard he fell
On his weary knees
As you tore your way through his door?

Your selfishness has blinded you.

ThankYou
